On Monday morning, two other attackers were apprehended with injuries, with the incident occurring in the evening according to AEST.

Istanbul Governor Davut Gul confirmed to reporters that two police officers suffered minor injuries during the confrontation. The assailants were reportedly armed with long-barreled weapons.

Interior Minister Mustafa Cifti revealed on X that the attackers had journeyed to Istanbul from Izmit, a city approximately 100 kilometers to the east, using a rented vehicle.

One of the attackers was associated with a group that Cifti referred to as “exploiting religion,” although he did not specify the organization by name.

Turkey has previously been a target of deadly assaults by the Islamic State group.

Two of the attackers were brothers and one had a criminal record related to drugs.

Video from the attack showed one assailant carrying what appeared to be an assault rifle, wearing a brown backpack, and hiding behind a bus when exchanging fire with police.

A police officer falls to the ground, apparently having been shot, and then rolls away to get behind a tree for cover.

The consulate is located in a high-rise building. Officials said there are no Israeli diplomats present in Israeli missions in Turkey.

Israel withdrew its diplomats amid security concerns and deteriorating relations with Turkey, following the war in Gaza.

Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek said three prosecutors, including a deputy chief prosecutor, have been assigned to lead an investigation.
