A tropical low-pressure system is currently lingering over the central region of the territory, with forecasts indicating it will stay relatively stationary over the eastern Gregory today. Movement is expected to gradually shift westward by tomorrow and continue into Wednesday.
The area is likely to experience continued heavy rainfall through tomorrow night, although meteorologists predict a reduction in intensity by Wednesday morning.
Communities that could be impacted by this weather system include Elliott, Kalkarindji, Lajamanu, Daly Waters, Top Springs, and Daguragu.
The Bureau of Meteorology has reported significant rainfall, noting that 183 mm was measured at Gilnockie in the 24 hours leading up to 9 a.m. today.
In parallel developments, there is an increasing likelihood that Tropical Low 21U will escalate into a tropical cyclone later this week.
The system has the potential to move offshore over waters to the north of the Pilbara, according to Weatherzone senior meteorologist Tim Woebbeking.
