Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, aged 56, who led the training department of Russia’s general staff, tragically lost his life when an explosive device, placed beneath his stationary vehicle, went off in a residential area of southern Moscow.
“We need to approach this with composure. It’s a consequence of war,” he remarked.
Sarvarov’s military career included participation in Russian campaigns across the North Caucasus, most notably in Chechnya during the 1990s, as detailed in his official biography on the defense ministry’s website.
Witkoff had previously described those discussions as “productive and constructive.”
Moscow has shown irritation towards Europe’s participation, as it seeks to negotiate directly with Trump.
