Human remains have been found inside a crocodile during the search for a 60-year-old man missing from Far North Queensland.

A search and rescue operation began after Adam Yunkaporta from Aurukun, in the Cook Shire, was reported missing on February 1.

He was last seen leaving his home about 12pm on January 30 and was believed to have gone fishing at the mouth of the Ward, Watson and Archer Rivers.

Police, SES volunteers, wildlife rangers, aerial support and community members scoured the surrounding land and headed onto boats to search the river. 

But, by Wednesday, the search had entered into the recovery phase. 

Last night, police and wildlife officers located a crocodile along the Watson River and humanely euthanised it.

“Forensic testing was carried out this morning and human remains were located within the crocodile,” police said in a statement today.

“Further testing will be conducted to identify the remains.”

Police have notified the family of the missing 60-year-old and the local council.
