The organization has reported that out of the numerous casualties, 5,777 were protesters, while an additional 49 were identified as civilians not involved in the protests.
Among the tragic toll, it is estimated that 86 children have lost their lives. Furthermore, 214 individuals linked to government forces have also been killed following the severe crackdown on demonstrations that erupted late last month.
According to HRANA, the organization is currently investigating the possibility of over 17,000 deaths related to this unrest.
In a statement, HRANA highlighted that “widespread internet disruptions and shutdowns have remained one of the government’s main tools for restricting the flow of information and reducing protesters’ ability to organize.”
This approach has resulted in significant disruption to citizens’ access to information, hindered communication with family members, and affected both online services and independent media, the organization added.
Government sources claim that the death toll is only just over 3000, 2427 of which are civilians and security forces.
They have labelled the rest “terrorists”.
In the past, Iran’s theocracy has undercounted or not reported fatalities from unrest.
That death toll exceeds that of any other round of protest or unrest there in decades, and recalls the chaos surrounding Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution.
