Renowned filmmaker James Cameron did not hold back his thoughts on former President Donald Trump, describing him as the “most narcissistic” figure since Roman Emperor Nero. Cameron, celebrated for his work on blockbuster hits like “Titanic” and the “Avatar” franchise, shared his strong opinions in a candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter focusing on his illustrious career.
During the conversation, Cameron addressed his plans to eventually step away from the “Avatar” series, with the latest installment, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” set to debut in theaters this Friday. The 71-year-old director also reflected on the influence of political dynamics on his work in recent years.
Famed director James Cameron went on a foul-mouthed rant about President Donald Trump, calling him the ‘most narcissistic’ person since the Roman Emperor Nero.Â
Cameron, known for creating Titanic and the Avatar franchise, spoke about his complete disdain for Trump in a recent interview about his career with The Hollywood Reporter.Â
After discussing how he’s gearing up to move on from the Avatar series, with the most recent film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, hitting theaters on Friday, the 71-year-old filmmaker discussed how politics has impacted his career in recent times.Â
In reference to the upcoming film, Cameron spoke about Trump’s administration seemingly dismantling environmental protections, while his Avatar series focuses on themes of humankind’s influence on ecosystems and climate change.Â
‘I’m not frustrated that Avatar isn’t solving it,’ Cameron told the outlet, adding that he believes the commander-in-chief is the ‘most narcissistic a**hole in history since f***ing Nero.’Â
Nero was a notorious Roman emperor known for political murders, the persecution of Christians, and splurging on personal indulgences.Â
Cameron doubled down on his criticism of Trump, adding: ‘Yeah, you can quote that.’
He continued: ‘I’m frustrated because the human race seems to be delusional about what they think is going to happen next. We are going backwards.Â

Cameron is no stranger to sharing his disdain for the President. He even talked about becoming a full-time New Zealand citizen after Trump was reelected earlier this yearÂ
‘But who’s to say we wouldn’t be going backwards even faster if it wasn’t for these films? There isn’t an alternative Earth without Avatar we can point to say, “It made the measurable difference”.
‘What we can say is the films are on the right side of history,’ he continued.Â
Cameron is no stranger to sharing how much he dislikes Trump, as he previously said he was pursuing New Zealand citizenship after the president returned to the White House for a second term.Â
The Oscar-winning director splits his time between living in the US and New Zealand, where he owns a property. He is originally from Canada.Â
When asked how worried he was about Trump’s reelection during a podcast episode with New Zealand outlet Stuff in February, Cameron called it ‘horrific’ and ‘horrifying,’ and described his New Zealand citizenship as ‘imminent.’Â
‘I see a turn away from everything decent,’ he said on the podcast The F#$%ing News with Paddy Gower.Â
Cameron, who has lived in New Zealand for nearly two decades but is still working toward citizenship, said he believes America is losing its core values under Trump’s leadership.

‘America doesn’t stand for anything if it doesn’t stand for what it has historically stood for. It becomes a hollow idea, and I think they’re hollowing it out as fast as they can for their own benefit.’
Despite living outside the US, the director expressed fear that there’s no true escape from Trump’s global impact.
‘We are all in this together globally,’ he said.
Cameron further compared US coverage of Trump to witnessing a ‘car crash over and over and over.’Â Â
