Kmart Australia has issued an urgent recall for reusable coffee cups sold both online and in-store after an injury was reported.

The department store giant recalled its Anko-branded double-walled coffee cups with lids sold between December 18, 2024 and April 7, 2025 over issues with the lid.

The same faulty Anko cups – which come in four colours – are also sold at Target.

“When the cup is filled with hot liquid, the lid may rapidly release and pop off as there is no pressure release valve,” it said in a statement.

There is a serious risk of injury from hot coffee or other liquid and steam burns if the lid comes off unexpectedly.

An injury has occurred as a result of the faulty cups, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) said in a release.

Shoppers who bought the reusable coffee cups have been warned to stop using them and to return the product.

“Contact the store of purchase if you are unable to return the product to the store,” Kmart said in a statement.

“Tell us if you have sold or gifted the product to another person.”

The impacted products come in the colours sunset, sage, black and rose gold.
