Negotiations are under way to speed up court proceedings against a cult leader and self-professed prophet accused of grooming a girl since she was six.

William Kamm, known to his followers as ‘Little Pebble’, allegedly called the child, wrote her letters, and sent her presents to groom her to become the “queen” of his church.

The 74-year-old and his wife Sandra Susan Mathison, 58, have been charged with sexually abusing the girl for more than a decade.

Neither has entered pleas to the charges against them, which have been languishing before the courts for more than a year.

Today, Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court was told there may be light at the end of the tunnel after prosecutors proposed an offer to Kamm’s lawyer.

The crown prosecutor asked for an adjournment to negotiate the proposal with a view to having the matter committed for trial.

Magistrate Clare Farnan put the matter over for six weeks and urged the parties not to incur further delays.

“(Kamm) has been in custody for a long time and the matter needs to be resolved,” she said.

Kamm and Mathison were arrested in March 2024 following an investigation into allegations a woman had been groomed by the founder of a religious group and his partner.

The alleged abuse occurred when Kamm was either in jail for the sexual abuse of two other girls or on parole and subjected to an extended supervision order, prosecutors claim.

He has been charged with grooming a child under 14 years for unlawful sexual activity, grooming a child for unlawful sexual activity, and an aggravated offence of inciting a person to do a sexual act.

Kamm also faces allegations he failed to comply with a supervision order.

Mathison faces charges of grooming a child under 14 years for unlawful sexual activity and grooming a child for unlawful sexual activity.

She is on bail and will face court when the matters return to court in May.
