A 20-year-old man has recounted the traumatic moment two men tried to carjack him and a friend while they were sitting in a Hungry Jack’s car park in Melbourne’s east.

The pair were eating burgers inside their car when a black Mercedes pulled up next to them in Forest Hill on January 5.

Detective Sergeant Gerry Muileman said a man then exited the Mercedes before approaching the victims’ window, demanding them to “get out of the car”.

Police said the offender attempted to open the car doors before pulling out a knife and slashing the tyre of the car.

The victims quickly called police and the offender returned to his car.

“I tried to move but I couldn’t because he slashed my tire,” the victim said.

“He then started stabbing at my window.”

Shortly after, police said a white Volkswagen Golf pulled into a carpark next to victims, before another man got out of the car.

He was armed with glass-breaking tool and smashed the driver’s side window and unlocked the door, before grabbing the car keys.

The victims were once again told to ”get out of the vehicle”.

However, as police made their way to the scene, the offenders were spooked, with the man returning the keys to the victim.

Both offenders fled the scene.

The victims, a 20-year-old man from Mill Park and a 20-year-old woman from Sale, were not injured but left severely distressed.

“I was terrified but I was just trying to not be harmed. I was willing to give him my car, I just didn’t want to get stabbed,” the victim said.

“It was really weird.”
