Traffic during the United Nations General Assembly in New York can be brutal—even for presidents.

French President Emmanuel Macron suddenly found himself stranded on the sidewalk Monday night.

That’s because President Donald Trump’s motorcade had the street on lockdown. Macron picked up the phone and called Trump to jokingly complain about the gridlock.

“How are you? Guess what? I’m waiting in the street because everything is closed for you,” Macron says on the call.

Eventually, the barricades opened for pedestrians, but not for cars.

Macron had to keep the call going while walking to the French embassy.

And if that wasn’t unusual enough, a bystander seized the opportunity for a quick kiss with the French president.

Macron’s walk through the Big Apple took about a half hour.

The French president used his trip to New York to formally recognise the “State of Palestine” on behalf of France at the UN.

Australia, Canada, the UK and Portugal have all made similar announcements.
