Man charged over alleged screwdriver stabbing in Sydney

A man has been charged after allegedly stabbing a delivery rider in inner Sydney.

At about 9.15pm on Monday, August 18, emergency services were called to Mary Ann Street, Ultimo.

They were told a 24-year-old delivery rider had been pushed off his bike by an unknown man, who then stabbed him more than a dozen times with a screwdriver.

The unknown man then walked away.

The delivery rider was taken to hospital in a serious but stable conditions, and has not yet been discharged.

At about 1.55pm yesterday, police arrested a 31-year-old man on Pyrmont Street, Camperdown.

Police have now charged a man over the incident. (9News)

They also carried out a search warrant at a unit where officers seized a screwdriver for forensic examination.

The 31-year-old was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and will appear in court today.
