A man has been charged after allegedly returning a blood alcohol level six times the legal limit behind the wheel in Sydney’s south-west.

Police were called about an SUV driving erratically on the Hume Highway at Menangle on Saturday night, and pulled the car over at about 10.40pm.

The driver, a 37-year-old man, allegedly returned a positive breath test and was arrested.

A breath analysis at the police station allegedly returned a blood alcohol content reading of 0.317.

Police also claim the man’s provisional driver’s licence had expired more than two years ago.

The legal BAC limit for P-plate drivers is zero, and 0.05 for fully licensed drivers, while a level of 0.4 per cent is considered potentially fatal.

The man, from Randwick, was issued with a court attendance notice and will front the bench on April 17.

He has been banned from driving until then.
