In the quiet town of Childers, a violent episode unfolded over the span of approximately eight minutes, resulting in the tragic death of an elderly resident, who was allegedly attacked with a metal pole.

The incident began when a 36-year-old man, behind the wheel of a Subaru Liberty, reportedly crashed intentionally into a Mitsubishi Pajero.

After the collision, it’s claimed that the Pajero driver, upon exiting his vehicle, was struck by the Subaru reversing into him. The assailant allegedly then proceeded to repeatedly punch the driver in the face.

Continuing his rampage, the 36-year-old drove to Whietbridge Road in North Isis, where he encountered a 78-year-old man. He allegedly assaulted him, first with a punch to the head, followed by a brutal attack with a metal pole.

The elderly man sustained severe injuries and tragically succumbed to them at the scene.

The Subaru driver then allegedly drove to Crescent Street in Childers, where he allegedly assaulted a 66-year-old man.

Earlier, the alleged offender from Bundaberg West was allegedly involved in a car crash on the Bruce Highway at Glenorchy, where he allegedly deliberately reversed into a Tesla, before verbally abusing the driver of the Tesla.

None of the victims are believed to be known to the man.

Members of the public then restrained the man, allowing police to arrest him.

He has been charged with one count each of murder, attempt to murder, acts intended to maim, disfigure or disable, dangerous operation of a vehicle and evasion.

He will appear at Gladstone Magistrates Court via video link today.
