A man faces charges following an incident where he allegedly left another man severely injured on a suburban street and subsequently assaulted a woman who called for assistance.

The 18-year-old man was found unconscious with serious head injuries by a walker on Christine Avenue in Varsity Lakes on the Gold Coast around 10.40pm yesterday.

Authorities report that the 34-year-old suspect was lurking nearby when the events unfolded.

When the 27-year-old woman contacted emergency services, the suspect allegedly attacked her as well.

During the arrest, he reportedly spat at the officers.

The 18-year-old victim was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in critical condition. The woman, suffering minor injuries, was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The man, from Moggill in Brisbane, has been charged with grievous bodily harm, serious assault of a police officer, and common assault.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates’ Court today.

Police are appealing for information.
