A 30-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences after leading police on a chase that ended in a dramatic shopping centre arrest.

Just after midday yesterday, police saw an Audi allegedly driving erratically on the Leach Highway in Melville in Perth’s south.

After the vehicle entered a carpark in Myaree, police tried to get the vehicle to stop, but it allegedly sped away, leading to a chase.

The driver allegedly drove onto the footpath and on the wrong side of the road, and the chase was terminated due to safety concerns.

A short time later, the man was tracked down to a shopping centre in Booragoon, where the man abandoned the vehicle and disposed of a duffel bag.

The duffel bag was later found to have a sawn-off rifle with ammunition, a homemade taser and a pocket knife.

At around 4.20pm, the man was located at a supermarket on South Street in Kardinya.

Police bodycam footage showed the man trying to evade police in the busy supermarket before he was eventually apprehended.

The man was charged with multiple offences, including two counts of carrying or possessing a prohibited weapon, one count of reckless driving to escape pursuit by police, and one count of possessing a prohibited drug (methylamphetamine).

He has been remanded in custody after appearing before Fremantle Magistrates Court, and will appear again on October 3.
