Queensland police said the man was arrested in Ceduna, about eight hours’ drive west of Adelaide, on Tuesday.

The man, who can’t be named for legal reasons, was extradited to Cairns on Thursday.

He faced court on 25 counts of rape, 11 counts of indecent assault and one count of deprivation of liberty.

The alleged incidents were reported to police in October 2021 and date back to 1978 and 1979.

A police spokesperson said there was believed to be more than one alleged victim.

The 75-year-old was remanded in custody to face Cairns Magistrate Court again on Friday.
