A 55-year-old man has died after a blaze broke out in a commercial storage unit in Sydney’s north west early this morning.

Emergency services were called to storage unit, which is above a Domino’s pizza shop, in Oxford Street, Epping, at about 4.30am.

Firefighters working to put out the blaze discovered the man inside the unit and pulled him from the burning building.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition, where he died a short time later.

It is not yet known what caused the fire. 

Officers attached to Ryde Police Area Command have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
