Married At First Sight groom Ryan Donnelly was left fuming during Wednesday night’s episode, after his wife Jacqui Burfoot read him a shocking ‘confession letter’.

The confronting episode saw Jacqui, 31, read a heartfelt letter out to Ryan, 36, in which she described the very high standards she has when searching for a partner.

However, despite Jacqui’s claim that the letter was meant to help Ryan better understand her, he took it as a personal attack on who he was.

‘I’m hoping off the back of this [letter], Ryan will step up his game a bit and bring something interesting to the table,’ Jacqui told the cameras before visiting her partner.

‘I’m a very curious and intelligent person. My mind is the thing I love most about myself – but unfortunately, most people judge a book by its cover,’ Jacqui read to Ryan.

‘They are incapable of believing there is no inverse correlation between looks and brains. You can be a beauty queen and still have a brain,’ the good-looking law graduate added.

She continued reading and began to describe her many achievements – and why a potential partner needed to bring something special to the table to meet her standards.

‘I’ve read over 1,000 non-fiction books. I received first-class honours in both law and finance. I know how to do accounting, negotiating and pitching,’ Jacqui continued.

‘When I’m dating I usually go for highly intelligent men… investment bankers, software developers. I’m a huge asset to someone like that and I need my partner to be an asset to my goals in life.

‘It is important to me my partner is financially literate and understands financing and investing. They must be an asset, not a liability. I won’t rest until I have made at least $500m and that goal will be best with a partner who wants the same.’

However, Ryan was not impressed by Jacqui’s letter and later told the cameras her speech made him very uncomfortable.

‘It just seemed like she was grandstanding. It was quite condescending and patronising. It was like she was saying, “Can you match me?”‘ he began.

‘Or, “This is the level of man I need”, like she was trying to illustrate it is a failure in our current scenario or I am failing her. I feel insulted.’

The NSW-based project manager said he was disappointed Jacqui only spoke of assets and material wealth as things that were important to her, rather than her personal hopes and emotions.

The pair then argued as Jacqui questioned why her partner didn’t bond with her over the list and instead became confrontational, leaving the future of their relationship in doubt.

‘That read like a profile, you gave me a résumé,’ Ryan told her.

‘If I am trying to emotionally communicate with you, this is not the way to go about it.’

Jacqui retorted that Ryan’s communication style was ‘toxic’ and she felt ‘attacked’ by him – prompting him to say ‘we are done here’ and storm out of the room.

It comes after Jacqui was left sobbing shortly after their wedding ceremony when she was forced to ‘take the lead’ in the relationship.

The pair were posing for their post-ceremony photos and Jacqui objected to having to be assertive and take Ryan’s hand, as he had not offered.

‘That’s one thing I wanted, a man to take the lead,’ the Sydney consultant said, becoming upset.

‘Because I don’t want to be the one…’ she trailed off, before bursting into bizarre, tearless sobs.

Married At First Sight continues on Sunday at 7:00pm on Channel Nine.
