Headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland, the company disclosed in a recent statement that a vehicle carrying a load of their popular chocolate-covered waffle bars has vanished without a trace. The disappearance occurred while the shipment was on its way from the production site to various distribution centers.
The intended destination for these delectable treats was the vast European market. However, the current whereabouts of both the vehicle and its precious cargo remain unknown.
Despite this setback, the company has reassured consumers and partners that each chocolate bar can be traced back to its original batch through unique identifiers. This precautionary measure allows the firm to maintain control over the distribution of their products, even if the bars find their way into unauthorized sales channels.
According to a KitKat spokesperson, both consumers and businesses, including retailers and wholesalers, can easily verify whether the chocolate bars they encounter are part of the stolen batch by simply scanning the on-pack batch numbers. This step ensures transparency and safety for all parties involved in the chocolate’s supply chain.
A spokesperson for KitKat said that as a result, consumers, retailers and wholesalers would be able to identify if a product is part of the stolen shipment by scanning the on-pack batch numbers.
If a match is found, the scanner will be given clear instructions on how to alert the company, which will then share the evidence appropriately.
“Whilst we appreciate the criminals’ exceptional taste, the fact remains that cargo theft is an escalating issue for businesses of all sizes,” KitKat said in a statement.
“With more sophisticated schemes being deployed on a regular basis, we have chosen to go public with our own experience in the hope that it raises awareness of an increasingly common criminal trend.”
