The Indo Pacific International Maritime Exposition has sparked a wave of protests, commencing early in the morning at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour. This location, just opposite the International Convention Centre, serves as the backdrop for this significant gathering.

The expo, spanning three days, is hailed as a leading platform for commercial maritime and naval defense discussions. It aims to bring together Australian and international stakeholders across defense, industry, government, academia, and technology, all in alignment with national interests, as emphasized by the New South Wales government.

In light of the protests, a substantial police presence, including mounted units, has been deployed to ensure attendees can enter the venue without obstruction. Despite these measures, several protesters have already been arrested.

An organizer of the protest, speaking to Today, expressed their stance, stating, “We’re here to peacefully protest against a convention of war criminals.” Their message underscores the strong opposition to the event, which they believe supports militaristic agendas.

“The United Nations has found genocide in Gaza. This convention is a clear breach of international law.

“Everyone knows that, the government knows it, and here they are going ahead with it anyway, with a thousand cops to protect the war criminals.”

The convention will be held from November 4 to November 6.
