London’s Metropolitan Police says it is “actively looking into” media reports Prince Andrew asked his taxpayer-funded bodyguard for personal information about his accuser Virginia Giuffre.

The police have announced an investigation into recent allegations following reports by the Mail on Sunday and the Sunday Telegraph.

“We are aware of the media coverage and are currently examining the claims,” stated a police spokesperson in a statement released this morning (tonight AEDT).

The Mail reported that an email from Andrew to Queen Elizabeth’s deputy press secretary revealed he had given his Met Police personal protection officer Virginia Giuffre’s date of birth and social security number, allegedly to conduct an inquiry into her.

There is no indication that the protection officer acted on the prince’s request.

While Prince Andrew has not made a recent comment, he has consistently denied these allegations in the past.

In 2022 he reached an out-of-court settlement with Giuffre after she filed a civil suit against him in New York.

While he didn’t admit wrongdoing, Andrew did acknowledge Giuffre’s suffering as a victim of sex trafficking.

The sidelining came after emails emerged last week showing Andrew remained in contact with Epstein longer than he previously admitted.
