A flight traveling from Sydney to Adelaide had to make an unexpected return due to a potential engineering problem and a medical situation involving a passenger.

The issue became apparent on flight VA424 earlier this afternoon, prompting immediate attention.

One passenger reported being informed that the complication was related to one of the plane’s engines.

The flight crew worked diligently to maintain calm among passengers as the aircraft redirected back to Sydney around 3 PM.

Upon landing, an ambulance awaited the plane on the tarmac to assist a woman who had experienced a medical episode during the flight.

The woman in her 50s was having difficulty breathing and was rushed to the RPA for treatment.

Virgin Australia said the plane was being inspected by engineers and apologised.

“We are working to get everyone to Adelaide as soon as possible,” the airline said.
