A verdict was reached today in the trial of a Parkwood mother who stabbed her daughter’s secret boyfriend.

After more than three hours of deliberating, a jury returned a guilty verdict saying Jennifer Chin intended to cause harm when she stabbed the 14-year-old boy inside her Parkwood home in October 2023.

Throughout the four-day trial, the prosecutor put to Chin that she acted out of retribution and anger that the boy had been snuck into the home by the woman’s daughter for a secret sexual encounter.

Prosecutors claimed she was acting in anger when she stabbed the boy with a 20-centimetre kitchen knife twice to his chest.

He was left with injuries and was taken to hospital.

Chin argued through her defence lawyer that she wasn’t acting out of anger, but she was in fact acting out of self defence.

She said she was trying to defend her children, thinking the boy had been an intruder.

But the jury did not agree.

The prosecutor had put to Chin that she would have known that the 14-year-old was just a boy and not an intruder based on his slim build and his short stature.

Chin will be sentenced at a later date.
