In New South Wales, Anzac Day is currently recognized as a public holiday only on April 25, regardless of whether it falls on a weekend. This year, Anzac Day will be observed on a Saturday.
NSW Premier Chris Minns mentioned in an interview with Triple M’s Beau, Cat & Woodsy, “We’re considering discussions about this year’s observance.”
He further noted, “Compared to other states, we have fewer public holidays, which is something we need to address.”
Nonetheless, Minns emphasized that any decision would be made only after consulting with the RSL. He wants to ensure that the significance of Anzac Day’s remembrance ceremonies and marches is preserved.
“I need to be certain that if we introduce a public holiday on the following Monday, it won’t diminish the importance of the 25th,” he stated.
“It’s got to be the 25 that’s hugely important.”
