Donald Trump has revealed Nicki Minaj as his unlikely new celebrity ally just weeks after his actions were called into question by his most influential backer, Joe Rogan.

The rapper recently proclaimed her unwavering support for the U.S. President during an event dedicated to introducing ‘Trump Accounts’ for newborns. Her enthusiastic declaration was a highlight of the gathering.

“I will say that I am probably the president’s number one fan, and that’s not going to change,” the artist, known for hits like Starships, passionately told the audience on Wednesday in the United States.

Sharing the stage with Trump, Minaj took a firm stand against what she described as “hate,” “bullying,” and “smear campaigns” aimed at the President, showcasing her staunch loyalty.

Her vocal support might catch some off guard, considering that a few years ago, Minaj publicly stated she would not “jump on the Donald Trump bandwagon.” This marks a notable evolution in her political stance.

It appears that Minaj’s political leanings have gradually shifted towards a more conservative perspective in recent years.

Born Onika Tanya Maraj in Trinidad and Tobago, Minaj previously said her background as an undocumented immigrant put her at odds with Trump.

“What stuck with me was the children being taken away from their parents when they came into this country,” she told Rolling Stone in 2020.

“That really bothered me because I was one of those immigrant children coming to America to flee poverty.

“And I couldn’t imagine a little child going through all of that, trying to get to another country because they didn’t have money in their country, or whether you’re fleeing from war … and then being taken away from the one person that makes you feel comfort.”

It seems that she has since changed her mind.

In 2021, she claimed on Twitter that the COVID-19 vaccine had made a male relative impotent, echoing right-wing vaccine scepticism and science denial.

There was no scientific evidence to support her claim.

In 2025, she reposted White House TikTok clips promoting Trump’s anti-trans and anti-immigration policies, among others.

She also delivered a speech backing Trump’s claims that Christians are under attack in Nigeria at the United Nations on the invitation of US ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz.

Minaj then appeared at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest for an event with Erika Kirk, widow of late conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk, in December 2025.

During their interview Minaj referred to the president as “handsome” and “dashing” and said she loved both him and Vice President JD Vance.

Now she’s taken the final step into Trump’s fold with their joint appearance on Wednesday.

The president seemed glad to have the support of the “greatest and most successful female rapper in history” and thanked her for donating “hundreds of thousands of dollars” for the Trump accounts.

“I didn’t know Nicki, and I’ve been hearing over the years she’s a big Trump supporter, or Trump fan,” he said.

“And she took a little heat on occasion because her community isn’t necessarily a Trump fan.”

Some critics, including Democratic strategist Mike Nellis, have speculated that Minaj’s sudden support of Trump may be a bid to win a presidential pardon for her husband and brother, both of whom have serious criminal records.

Her husband, Kenneth Petty, was convicted of attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl in 1994 and served four years in prison.

He was registered as a sex offender in New York state and was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender when he and Minaj moved to California in 2020.

He was sentenced to a year of house arrest, three years probation, and made to pay an $80,000 fine.

Petty was also charged with second-degree murder for shooting and killing a man named Lamont Robinson in 2002.

A plea bargain reduced the charge to manslaughter and he spent seven years in prison.

“It’s super f–king embarrassing watching Nicki Minaj kiss Donald Trump’s ass to get a pardon for her husband and her brother,” Nellis wrote on X.

Minaj has not indicated that she would like the president to intervene on her brother or husband’s behalf.
