NT fisherman’s close call after narrowly escaping croc-infested waters

The car was parked at the Shady Camp boat ramp in Point Stuart, east of Darwin, when it jackknifed after the handbrake failed, sending it and the attached trailer straight to the bottom. 

Video of the incident appeared on the Darwin & NT Fishing Reports Facebook page, catching the moment a man hops from the ute’s tray onto a nearby boat, just as the whole car goes under.

The Mary River, where the boat sank, has the highest concentration of saltwater crocodiles in the world.

9News understands that the car and trailer have been recovered.
