A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a car in Sydney’s south-west overnight.
Emergency services were called to Cabramatta Road in Mount Pritchard at around 11.15pm yesterday following reports a pedestrian had been hit by a BMW sedan.
Antwan Sarkis, 55, was found unconscious nearby and paramedics treated him at the scene for critical head injuries before he was taken to Liverpool Hospital.
His loved ones tell 9News that Antwan – who is deaf and partially blind – was heading home after a meal at the pub when he was hit by the car.
He was just 400m from his home when the incident took place, and family members say he takes that route regularly.
“He is like my own father, I look after him and make sure he’s alright,” his nephew Charles told 9News.
“He’s not stable, he’s got brain injuries, fractured chest, fractured lung, broken leg.”
Witnesses came to Antwan’s aid as he lay unconscious on the ground.
The male driver of the BMW, 45, was uninjured and was taken to Fairfield Hospital for testing.
A crime scene has been established and police have commenced an investigation into the incident.
No charges have been laid.
Anyone with dashcam footage, CCTV, or information about the incident is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
