Authorities are delving into the possibility that a group was contracted for an underworld assassination attempt outside the Wenty Leagues club in Wentworthville.
Police intercepted a reportedly stolen Audi after pursuing it from Wentworthville to Lidcombe along the Great Western Highway.
In the aftermath, three individuals were apprehended, including 28-year-old Dean Saunders and 24-year-old Chayce Jensen. They have been charged with firearms offenses and involvement in a criminal organization.
The Raptor squad launched a search for the men after they were allegedly seen wearing balaclavas inside a white Audi parked at Wenty Leagues around 2 PM the previous day.
Detectives are currently investigating whether the group intended to execute a gangland hit, given the pistol and rifle reportedly discovered in the stolen vehicle.
The car is linked to several underworld shooting and fire bombings across south-west Sydney.
That includes a shooting on March 14, a firebombing on March 20 and another drive-by last Tuesday on the same Panania house.
On the same night police alleged the stolen car was used in shootings at Colyton and St John’s Park.
9News is not suggesting those arrested are involved in these other crimes.
Police say the target who lives at the house in Panania is linked to the G7 gang.
Members of this gang are often young men who are hired by heavyweight criminals to carry out underworld contracts.
The three accused didn’t apply for bail in court today but plan to in coming weeks.
9News understands they don’t have any strong links to any criminal groups and police allege they are a crime crew for hire.
The Audi is being forensically examined and investigators say it could have been used by a number of different criminals for dozens of underworld jobs.
