A prosthetic limb discovered on a beach along the Mid North Coast of New South Wales remains without an owner, prompting police efforts to locate the individual to whom it belongs.
Jess White and her fiancé, Chris, stumbled upon the artificial leg during a fishing trip near Scotts Head on Sunday afternoon.
They encountered the prosthetic about four kilometers from the 4WD access point, where the retreating tide had exposed it.
“It had some barnacles clinging to it, but we’re not experts, so we can’t say how long it was in the water,” White remarked.
After making the discovery, White promptly reached out to the authorities and followed their recommendation to turn it over to them.
Soon after, the find drew attention online when she shared it in a local community group.
“After speaking with the police, I posted it on the local Facebook page, and it blew up from there.”
Police told nine.com.au that a prosthetic leg was handed in to Nambucca Heads Police Station yesterday afternoon.
Authorities are continuing their inquiries.
