In a troubling incident in north London, police have classified a suspected arson attack on ambulances as an antisemitic hate crime. The attack occurred in the early morning hours, specifically around 1:45 a.m. local time, in the Golders Green area, as reported by the BBC.
The targeted vehicles belonged to Hatzolah, a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to providing emergency response and transport services to the Jewish community. The organization’s ambulances were deliberately set ablaze, prompting an immediate investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
Superintendent Sarah Jackson addressed the community’s concerns, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. “We know this incident will cause a great deal of community concern and officers remain on scene to carry out urgent enquiries,” she explained in her statement to the BBC.
As authorities continue to probe the details surrounding the attack, the incident underscores the persistent challenges faced by minority communities in the region. Efforts are underway to ensure safety and bring those responsible to justice.
”We know this incident will cause a great deal of community concern and officers remain on scene to carry out urgent enquiries,” Superintendent Sarah Jackson told the BBC.
“We are in the process of examining CCTV and are aware of online footage.
“We believe we are looking for three suspects at this early stage.”
There were no reports of injuries, according to Associated Press.
