Police-Involved Shooting Concludes Intense Siege in New South Wales

A man has been shot dead by police after a siege on the New South Wales Central Coast.

Authorities responded to a call for a welfare check at a residence on Wells Street in Springfield, near Gosford, shortly before 3:30 PM yesterday.

Upon arrival, they encountered a 49-year-old man who had armed himself with a screwdriver and other sharp implements, prompting the police to secure the area.

Officers made several attempts to negotiate with the man, but he remained uncooperative, according to police reports.

At approximately 9:25 PM, the situation escalated when the man attempted to attack an officer using an aerosol can as a makeshift blowtorch.

In response, tactical units moved into the property, where the man armed himself again with a sharp object and made multiple stabbing motions toward an officer.

Police fatally shot the man. One officer received a minor injury during the incident.

The man was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

A critical incident team is now investigating the incident.
