At about 11.30pm on Saturday, June 14, police were called to Lidcombe Railway Station after reports of an assault.
Police were told that two women, both aged 22, were travelling on a train between Circular Quay and Lidcombe stations when they were approached by a man they didn’t know.
After a short conversation, the man allegedly pepper-sprayed the women and moved into another carriage.
The women were treated at Lidcombe before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Police have now released images of a man they believe may be able to assist the investigation.
He is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his 20s, 170cm to 175cm tall, with a medium build.
At the time, he was wearing a dark blue cap, black headphones, olive green jacket and dark pants.
He was last seen leaving Parramatta Railway Station shortly before midnight that night.
