Thousands of homes remain without power after massive storms across Greater Sydney that have left a staggering backlog of jobs for the State Emergency Service.

Emergency Services Minister Jihad Dib said at the peak about 260,000 people were without electricity across the state.

“If you don’t need to be out in this weather, do not be out of it,” Dib said.

A tree fell between two homes at Wahroonga on the upper north shore, with the branches damaging Afshin Baktashi Petridis’ home.

“There’s three bedrooms that have all been damaged and there’s water pouring in,” he said.

“We’re trying to collect it but it’s impossible, there’s too much water.”

Another family in Eastwood lost their backyard shed after strong winds sent it flying over the fence.

At Bondi Beach, the wild weather turned the promenade into a sand dune.

SES crews were working to clear a backlog of damage during breaks in the wet weather.

“We continue to receive approximately 150 incidents per hour,” NSW SES Commissioner Mike Wassing said.

A severe weather warning has been cancelled for Sydney as a low pressure system moves off the coast.

There is a risk of flooding around the mid-north coast with several warnings in place.

An emergency warning was issued for the Ferndale Caravan Park and residents downstream of the Chichester Dam.

The SES also issued watch and act alerts for several locations due to floodwaters.
