An MMA fighter who goes by the nickname “the Smiling Assassin” was hospitalised after a shooting last night in Sydney.

Police say a man was driving his truck down Donald Street in Yennora about 11.20pm when another vehicle pulled up in front of him before a man got out and fired several shots into the truck.

The victim, identified as Hayder Khudair, was captured on CCTV running from his truck to a nearby home where he pleaded for help before jumping a fence.

Other nearby residents were alerted to the bangs and emerged from their homes.

Some offered Khudair first aid before paramedics arrived.

He was treated for gunshot wounds to his abdomen and wrist before he was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

9News understands Khudair trains at the Australian Top Team gym at Wentworthville, the same gym where a gunman disguised as a delivery driver opened fire in February last year in the alleged attempted murder of a former UFC fighter.

Police say this was the second attempt on Khuchair’s life after shots were fired at him at Yennora earlier this month.
