The Queensland government will consider a proposal for a new 60,000-seat Olympics stadium in Brisbane’s Victoria Park, 9News has exclusively revealed.

Sources had previously revealed to 9News Queensland that the independent review panel had recommended the stadium location, and now, the proposed size has also been uncovered.

It’s understood the state cabinet will review the proposal on Monday, ahead of an announcement next week that will also include the rollout of a proposed athletes village around the Brisbane showgrounds.

The panel found there was not enough time before the Olympics to rebuild the Gabba into an Olympic venue.

However, the findings could represent a political hurdle for Premier David Crisafulli, who promised during the election campaign that there would be no new stadiums under his watch.

The panel also rejected Swimming Australia’s proposal for a National Aquatic Centre at Spring Hill.

Instead, they recommended swimming events be held at the Brisbane Live Arena, and at a proposed new site next to the Gabba.

It’s understood the government is still considering all options.
