A woman is currently hospitalized with serious injuries following an incident where a car crashed into the outdoor seating area of a café in Sydney earlier today.

At around 9:50 a.m., two patrons were seated at an outdoor table at a café on Norton Street in Leichhardt when a silver BMW unexpectedly crossed two lanes of traffic and collided with them.

The car pinned a woman, who is believed to be in her 70s, against the café wall.

CCTV vision showed bystanders sprinting towards the car in desperate attempts to stop it from hitting diners.

Witnesses rushed to the aid of the victim and helped pull her out from the crash scene.

He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital under police guard for assessment.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
