Last evening, law enforcement officers were dispatched to Mornington, a suburb located approximately 46 kilometers southeast of Melbourne’s central business district. The call came in just after 7:30 p.m., spurred by reports of a suspicious individual loitering near a residence.
Upon arrival at Fleet Street, the officers, traveling in a divisional van, proceeded up the driveway and exited their vehicle. It was then that a black Land Cruiser utility vehicle emerged from around the corner, heading directly towards them, as recounted by the police.
Surveillance footage captured the dramatic sequence of events. The Land Cruiser repeatedly rammed into the police vehicle, striking it over a dozen times in a span of roughly two minutes, according to police statements.
The intense collision left both vehicles heavily damaged. The police car, in particular, was forcibly spun around ninety degrees due to the impact’s sheer intensity.
Both vehicles were severely damaged with the police car being turned ninety degrees around by the force.
The officers were not hurt.
The male driver, who was shirtless and wearing only black shorts and black socks, got out and climbed onto the roof of the police car.
A neighbour filmed him leap off and run off.
Police were later seen patrolling the area with dogs.
