A man has been charged with offensive conduct after allegedly wearing a vest covered in duct tape in Bondi Junction in Sydney‘s east.

Authorities shared with Today that there was “genuine concern and fear in Bondi” following an incident last night.

Officers responded to a call on Oxford Street shortly after 10 p.m. due to reports of suspicious activity.

Upon arrival, they engaged with and subsequently detained a 33-year-old man from Victoria.

The individual was reportedly wearing a vest adorned with objects secured by duct tape at the time of arrest.

During a search of his vehicle, police discovered another vest similarly taped.

Both vests were examined by officers attached to Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit and deemed safe.

Police also found a face mask and a tin believed to contain prohibited drugs in the man’s vehicle.

The man was taken to Surry Hills police station and charged with offensive conduct, possessing a prohibited drug, and giving false information.

He was refused bail and will face court today.
