A Perth man alleges he was assaulted with a “stun gun” in a Facebook Marketplace sale that turned into chaos in city’s north-east.

On a seemingly routine Monday afternoon, a transaction involving the sale of an e-scooter took an unexpected turn for Bevan and his son. The encounter, which was meant to be straightforward, quickly soured when Bevan realized they had been handed counterfeit money.

According to police reports, a 28-year-old man, who had arrived to purchase the scooter, attempted to make a quick escape with the vehicle. However, Bevan, determined not to let the thief get away with the scooter, intervened. “I couldn’t let him go away with that scooter,” the 66-year-old recounted in an interview with 9News.

Security footage from the day revealed that three men had shown up at Bevan’s residence in The Vines shortly after 3:30 PM. As the transaction unfolded, Bevan’s 14-year-old son was given a bag purported to contain cash.

Bevan claimed when he told the would-be buyer “mate, this is fake money, we’re not gonna take it”, he claims the man immediately turned violent.

The father said they got into a scuffle and alleged the would-be buyer pulled out a stun gun, Tasering him on the hand and chin.

“That’s where I actually hit the Taser at one point there,” Bevan said, showing apparent wounds on his hands.

“But a lot of times I, you know, I blocked it,” Bevan said.

Police were in the area and stopped to help as the alleged thief dropped the scooter and jumped fences.

Police said the man was hiding in an elderly woman’s garage shortly after taking off on foot again to a nearby street.

“There was just a terrible commotion. You could just hear outside a lot of screaming and angst going on,” neighbour James Evans said.

“And it was just chaos out here.”

Police arrested a man and an ambulance was called when he suffered a medical episode.

The 28-year-old, who was already on a curfew over other alleged offences, was charged with offences including aggravated home burglary and attempted armed robbery.

He remained behind bars last night.

Bevan had a message for where Marketplace sellers should meet their buyers.

“Anywhere public, even meet them at the bloody Ellenbrook police station and sell it to them there, anywhere but your own house 100 per cent,” he said.
