A distressing incident marred the bustling atmosphere of Black Friday sales at a shopping center in Adelaide, leaving a 16-year-old in critical condition and a 20-year-old seriously injured. The violent episode unfolded at the Elizabeth City Centre, situated in Adelaide’s northern region, shortly after 2 p.m. local time.
The chaos erupted as a confrontation involving four males escalated into violence, prompting the centre’s alarm system to activate and leading to an immediate lockdown of the area. Amid the commotion, a 16-year-old boy suffered a stab wound to the leg, necessitating urgent medical attention. He was swiftly transported to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he is currently fighting for his life.
Additionally, a 20-year-old man sustained a stab wound to the abdomen. Authorities have reported that he is in a stable condition, providing a glimmer of relief amidst the turmoil.
In the aftermath, law enforcement acted quickly, apprehending a suspect at the scene. The weapon allegedly used in the attack was also recovered, offering a crucial piece of evidence as investigations continue.
Police arrested a male at the scene and the knife used in the attacks was recovered.
SA Police Superintendent Amit Sareen said the shopping centre was particularly busy at the time due to the Black Friday sales.
”There were quite a few people around,” he said.
He has reassured the community the incident “was not a random attack”.
“The group was known to each other,” he said.
