The driver for New South Wales Police Minister Yasmin Catley has been charged with high-range drink driving, following an incident where he tested at three-and-a-half times over the legal alcohol limit.

Trevor Daley, aged 55, was apprehended near Bemboka on the Snowy Mountains Highway. Authorities report that his breath test showed a reading of .18, significantly exceeding the legal threshold.

Daley was scheduled to collect Minister Catley for the inauguration of the new Bega Police Station that morning.

“The situation is deeply troubling. Drinking and driving is against the law, and such laws apply to everyone,” Catley remarked.

At the time of Daley’s arrest, Minister Catley was not present in the vehicle.

She had flown to Bega with the Police Commissioner, Mal Lanyon.

She chose not to comment when asked if Daley remained her driver.

Catley has been the Police Minister for more than two years, and each holiday season has been at the forefront of delivering warnings about drink driving.

Daley told 9News he would not be making any comment.

He is scheduled to face court just before Christmas.
