There are plenty of reasons for Australians to watch, so here are the details.

What time is Super Bowl and how to watch

The match gets underway at 10.30am AEDT.
It is being broadcast free to air by the Seven Network, but depending on which state you are watching from, live coverage may be on Seven, 7plus or 7mate.

Foxtel is also broadcasting the game live and it can also be streamed on Kayo.

Jordan Mailata, the Australian playing in the Super Bowl

Many of those watching the game from Australia will likely be taking a keen interest in one particular Philadelphia Eagles player, wearing jersey number 68.
Jordan Mailata, who grew up in Western Sydney and played in the rugby league with the South Sydney Rabbitohs U-20s, will play in his second Super Bowl on Monday.
If the Samoan Australian’s team is victorious, he will be the first Australian to play in a Super Bowl match and win.
While for being a member of the Seattle Seahawks who won the Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014, injury had kept him off the field throughout the season and for the big game.

Mailata plays as an offensive tackle, a position for which his large size comes in handy.

One of his former sports teachers previously told SBS News, “Even from year 7 he stood out but by year 12 he was a giant.”

Halftime show

Not everyone who watches the Super Bowl is there for sport.
American rapper Kendrick Lamar will headline the halftime show at Super Bowl LIX.
The entertainer who recently added another five Grammy awards to his extensive collection will be joined on stage by special guest R&B singer SZA, who has collaborated with Lamar in the past.

Halftime show headliners are known for bringing out surprise guests to join them on stage and in the past their have been some big names who have made an appearance.

With Taylor Swift expected to be at the game to watch her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce play, fans have been speculating whether she could perform with Lamar.

The also often become a talking point.

Advertisers often premier new commercials, that they pay millions of dollars to air during 30-second slots in between the on field action.

The Chiefs or the Eagles

Mailata played in the Super Bowl LVII a couple of years back where his team was outdone by the Chiefs.

This will be the Chiefs’ third Super Bowl in three years after also defeating the San Francisco 49ers a year ago.

The Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, could make history as the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls (or “three-peat”) in the history of NFL.

But the Eagles and their quarterback Jalen Hurts would be looking to avenge their 2023 loss and bring Philadelphia their second-ever Super Bowl with a victory on Monday.

Australian interest in NFL

Australia’s connections to the NFL are growing, with an academy for the sport having opened here last year and an NFL regular season game to be played in Melbourne in 2026.
The NFL academy on the Gold Coast aims to provide NFL development and pathways to the Asia Pacific region.
While full details about the 2026 game are yet to be released, the Los Angeles Rams have been confirmed as the “home team” to play at the MCG.

Although the NFL has brought an exhibition match to Australia in the past, this will be the first time an in-season game will be played in the country.
