Authorities are actively searching for the individual responsible for this bold maneuver, cautioning that such actions constitute a serious offense with substantial legal repercussions.
The unusual event took place shortly before 6:00 p.m. yesterday. Security footage shows someone operating the excavator, skillfully maneuvering its bucket to completely block the speed camera, effectively disabling it.
Local workers have noted that excavators are commonly stationed at the location due to ongoing underground gas pipe work. However, they emphasize that the machines are typically secured without keys left inside overnight. Nonetheless, some universal keys could potentially start these machines.
However, they say keys are never left in these machines overnight, but that there are some universal keys that could have started it up.
While some locals found it amusing to block the camera, authorities were less than impressed.
Police say interfering with or obscuring a speed camera carries a fine of $2500 or up to 10 years in prison.
The incident is currently under investigation.
