The group of people who ransacked a Sydney home in a brutal break-in overnight may have been wearing police logos, it’s been confirmed.

At about 12.15am, police were called to a home at Sunny Place in St Johns Park in Sydney’s west.

They were told four people – two men aged 29 and 21, and two women aged 56 and 27 – were in the home when a group of unknown men broke in.

The intruders stole jewellery and cash before fleeing.

Police have confirmed the four people in the home were restrained by the intruders.

9News understands their hands were tied and that they were gagged with duct tape, but police have not confirmed the method of restraint.

The 21-year-old was also punched in the face, sustaining minor injuries.

Police are investigating. (9News)

The 56-year-old woman was taken to hospital as a precaution but there were no serious injuries.

Footage from a neighbour’s security camera showed a white ute and a white van parking on the property’s driveway just before the midnight home invasion.

The group of men are seen smashing their way into the home, and fleeing in the vehicles afterwards, pursued by some neighbours.

It’s not know whether the attack was targeted. (9News)

NSW Police Acting Inspector Ben Morgan said it was too early to tell whether the attack was targeted, but that it was a “line of inquiry”.

He said the intruders were thought to comprise four to six people, dressed in dark clothing.

He said while the intruders were not wearing police uniforms, investigators were looking into whether they had been wearing t-shirts or shirts that bore a police logo.

Morgan said he did not believe there was any ongoing threat to the community, but that police would have a “continued presence” in the area through the weekend.

Police are investigating the incident. Anybody with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
