A New South Wales man who allegedly published a call for violent protest on social media will face court today.

Authorities have reportedly identified a provocative social media post on Monday, December 15, believed to be an instigator for violence. This message was allegedly encouraging demonstrators to converge at a beach in Sydney’s southern region later this week, with intentions to stir unrest.

Acting swiftly, investigators apprehended a 20-year-old man in Narara on the Central Coast around 1:40 pm yesterday. The individual faces serious charges for using a communication service to threaten violence based on race or religion.

Denied bail, the accused is set to make a court appearance today, where he will face the allegations. The authorities’ prompt action underscores the gravity with which they are addressing potential threats to public safety and harmony.

He was charged with using a carriage service to make threats of violence on the grounds of race or religion.

He was refused bail and will appear in court today.

Police have also reminded anybody who saw the social media post that the suggested protest is unauthorised and not a protected public assembly, which could leave attendees open to criminal charges.
