A teenage boy, aged 15, is facing charges after allegedly ramming a police officer with an E-bike in the heart of Melbourne’s city center, resulting in severe injuries to a senior sergeant.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. yesterday, when the sergeant was on patrol in the bustling Flinders Street area. He observed a group of teenagers maneuvering E-bikes recklessly among the crowded streets.
In an effort to stop the group, the officer approached them between Swanston and Elizabeth streets and signaled for one of the riders to halt.
Authorities claim that instead of stopping, the 15-year-old accelerated and collided with the sergeant, attempting to flee the scene.
The sergeant sustained serious leg injuries and was promptly transported to a hospital for treatment.
The rest of the group fled the scene but the 15-year-old Port Phillip local was arrested by other officers on the spot.
The teenager spent the night in custody and has since been hit with a string of serious charges.
The teenager has been granted bail and is scheduled to face a children’s court at a later date. Police are continuing their search for the remaining riders involved in the group.
