In a dramatic turn of events, four teenage girls have confessed to killing a mother of two amid a brutal altercation. This unexpected plea came just before their murder trial was set to commence.

Authorities were alerted to a violent confrontation in the suburb of Warrawong, Wollongong, around 6:30 pm on November 22, 2023.

Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered 39-year-old Kristie McBride with severe stab injuries. She was immediately transported to Wollongong Hospital in a critical state.

Tragically, McBride succumbed to her injuries a decade of days later.

The four girls, each between the ages of 16 and 17, faced charges connected to her death.

They were all due to face the NSW Supreme Court today for the first day of their trial, but they pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

When they were asked how they pleaded, the girls each replied they were not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.

The teenagers will face a sentence hearing in December before learning their fate next year.

When court adjourned, they chatted amongst themselves and exchanged small smiles.

The two younger girls will remain living in the community on bail while the older teens are in custody.
