Two people have died and three more were injured in two separate car crashes in Victoria overnight.

A car exploded after hitting two parked cars on Edward Road at Chirnside Park at 2:50am, killing a 16-year-old male passenger from Montrose.

The 16-year-old driver of the car from Chirnside Park, and a second 16-year-old male passenger from Mooroolbark were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening but serious injuries, where they remain.

They were pulled from the car by witnesses and police. 

Another passenger died in a second car accident in Beconsfeild, when the car she was in crashed into a tree on the Old Princess Highway at 12:15am.

The woman died at the scene, and a male passenger was airlifted to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 30-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and is assisting police.

Officers are still investigating how both crashes unfolded, and have asked anyone with relevant information to speak to police.
