Two Perth teenagers have been charged following an alleged car theft that resulted in a police officer being dragged along the road.

Midland detectives said the two teen boys broke into a Waterford home and stole the keys to a Toyota Prado station wagon about 9pm last night.

About an hour later, police sighted the allegedly stolen vehicle in Ellenbrook.

Police pulled up beside the vehicle with their lights flashing.

Then an officer opened the door and told the driver to step out of the vehicle.

The driver then allegedly accelerated abruptly and dragged the officer along the road until coming to a halt.

Paramedics attended the scene shortly after to provide first aid to the injured police officer. He was later taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Both boys have been charged with a long list of crimes following the incident, including aggravated home burglary, assault to a public officer, and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

Both teenagers are set to appear at Perth Children’s Court today.
