In a distressing incident yesterday, an Adelaide bottle shop became the setting for a violent robbery, leaving a 75-year-old customer and a 22-year-old employee injured. The shocking event has led to the arrest of five teenagers, notably including two just 13 years old.

The drama began when the group of young individuals entered the Modbury store, seemingly intent on causing chaos. Surveillance footage reveals the harrowing moments when the staff member was cornered and brutally attacked, enduring a barrage of punches and kicks from the offenders.

In an act of bravery, the elderly customer attempted to come to the employee’s aid, only to find himself subjected to violence. The senior was punched, kicked, and ultimately hurled to the ground, resulting in his injuries.

Store cameras captured footage of a group cornering a young staff member, who was then subjected to repeated punches and kicks.

The 75-year-old man was assaulted while trying to intervene, sustaining injuries after being punched, kicked, and thrown to the ground.

Following the assaults, the group was seen fleeing with stolen goods.

Both victims suffered lacerations to the face and head, with the shop worker also sustaining a broken nose.

Police apprehended the alleged offenders after a brief foot chase.

Those include three boys aged 14, 15, and 18, and two 13-year-old girls.

The owner of the bottle shop, Steven King, said the incident was “despicable” and “cowardly”.

“It should be six months in jail straight away. They should be in jail for Christmas,” he said.

“There’s no consequences, they know that they’re under 18, they’ll be out the next day.”

King said crime had become worse than ever.

“I’ve been in hotels for 60 years. I worked in a bottle shop. It is the worst it has ever been,” he said.

Four of the teenagers arrested were subsequently granted police bail.

Police Minister Blair Boyer pointed to a decrease in robbery statistics as evidence of the government’s effective strategies.

“I think that shows that some of the things we are doing as a government around some of the strongest laws in Australia and a big commitment, a record commitment for new police is really starting to take effect,” he said.
